Happy New Year Happenings
at Roger Scott Tennis Center Tip from Bruce Caton, Tennis Director and Teaching Professional at Roger Scott Tennis Center
Well, the new year is in full swing (swing - tennis, get it?) and while big changes are happening in Washington, big things are on the horizon at Roger Scott. If all goes well, before the year is over we'll be playing on our 12 new hydrocourts. The design is in the final stages and will soon go out to bids. If you get a chance to play on the new Pensacola Country Club courts, ours will be virtually identical to those.
Now, for the immediate future. As the largest public facility in the area, it's our responsibility to try our best to serve as broad a spectrum of tennis interests as possible. To that end, we're starting classes next week for both seniors (50+) and ladies who are interested in using tennis as part of their program to get healthy and back in shape.
The senior classes will be held Friday afternoons and taught by Mario Alverez, a 30 year veteran of teaching tennis in the Pensacola area. Mario currently runs the tennis portion of the Senior Games every year at Roger Scott. For more senior info, call Mario at 623-2911.
The ladies classes will be on Saturday and Sunday afternoons and taught by Robin Crush, who was recently certified by the United States Professional Tennis Association. To see if one of Robin's lessons is right for you, she can be reached at 266-4426.
Senior USTA play is about to begin at Scott as well as all over town. If you are 50 or over and have not yet found a team, call Allison Randol at 934-9134.
Quad play has just begun, and Wendy is always looking for subs. You can reach her or leave her a message at the front desk, 912-4103.
Probably the biggest date of interest for ladies who want to play in our annual Pink Ribbon Tournament is February 9th at 1:00 PM. The tournament itself is March 20th and 21st, with a calcutta on the 19th. As many of you know, that particular tourney is so popular that it fills up shortly after registration opens, and you do need to be present to enter.
Last but very definitely not least, we have decided to partner with TennisPensacola.com so that any news regarding programs, events, lessons, and clinics, in short all things Roger Scott tennis related will be readily available on Sissy and Kicker's site. We have needed a first class web presence for some time for players, students and others to get Roger Scott information quickly and easily, and we feel that TennisPensacola.com will give us that presence. So from now on, when you want to know what is going on at our place, you know where to go!
