The "Tennis - Outrageous!" team tennis tournament was held at the Fort Walton Beach Tennis Center and Shalimar Pointe Country Club on December 27 and 28. Sixteen teams, 128 players, participated in the two day event compass draw format event. All teams played at least three matches. There was quite an array of talented players from around the Southeast playing in the event. The event is a major fund raiser for the $25,000 Women's Challenger Event held in March at the Fort Walton Beach Tennis Center.
Three teams from Pensacola participated including the defending champs captained by Pam Woodwis and Jim Morgan. Derrick Racine, UWF Argos tennis coach, captained another area team which included talented youngsters Chris Efron and Austin Racine. Finally, Scott Harrison captained a team where all but one member was from The Club in Gulf Breeze.
Harrison's team, "The Clubbers," defeated Racine's "Argos and Friends" in the semifinals and went on to win the tournament against "The Super Heroes" captained by Eric Sajowitz from Niceville.
"The Clubbers" included, in addition to Harrison, Retsy Wilson, Lori and Buddy Gonzalez, Chris Bloomberg, Jean Lee, Krysta Edge and Joe D'Aleo. Harrison gives complete credit for the win to his ladies. "They were awesome, giving us a lead in every round but the finals. Krysta kept it close in the Women's Singles final match and then all the ladies teamed to dominate "The Super Heroes" 8-2 in the Women's Doubles", said Harrison. "Krysta then teamed with Bloomberg and D'Aleo to trounce the "Super Heroes" 8-2 in the mixed final."
