The 1st Men's Doubles Summer Classic took place on August 29th & 30th at Shoreline Tennis in Gulf Breeze.

The 2 day event was a wonderful success with 24 teams participating in a compass draw where every team was guaranteed 4 matches. Even though rain halted play on the Sunday afternoon, a great time was had by all.

After some enthralling and entertaining tennis, Scott Norman and Jo McLeman prevailed 6-2, 6-1 in the final of the East Division, over John Roth and Lloyd Johnson.

Great food, good tennis and of course plenty of liquid refreshments contributed to a fun and exciting weekend.

During the Saturday lunch time interlude there was a fastest serve contest and a "hit for prizes" segment where participants won gift certificates, grips, strings and balls! Nearly all the players took part in these side events which were a real hit.

Tournament Director and Director of Tennis at Shoreline, James Kober, said that the tournament ran very smoothly and that the combination of some fantastically competitive tennis and the great social atmosphere led to a very successful event and he looks forward to this weekend going from strength to strength in years to come!

Kober also explained that, for a tournament to run so well, it takes a team effort from people behind the scenes who don't always get the recognition they deserve - so he wanted to make sure that a huge "thanks" went out to Whitney Man, Head Professional at Shoreline, Caleb Cobia, Assistant Pro at Shoreline, Terrina Kober, Event Coordinator and Kaya Hard, Assistant Coordinator - for all their hard work behind the scenes.
