Tennis-4-Everyone is a nonprofit organization that provides free tennis lessons to local youth attending summer camps at various locations in the Pensacola area.
At the end of each summer, a select few are chosen to receive "scholarships" in the form of free tennis lessons on Saturdays throughout the school year.
During the summer of 2008 we reached the children at Bayview (YMCA), Cobb Center, Salvation Army, Fricker Center, and avid follower Regine. Regine is ten years old and follows lead instructor, Michael Smith, from center to center to join in on all of the fun! We chose to use the USTA's Quickstart Tennis Format with much success! With the new, lighter racquets, foam and pressureless balls, and shortened court size, we were able to get more children "on the court" holding a racquet, playing and having actual rallies. Being indoors helped considerably. When you take the heat out of the equation, the children are more attentive and focused on enjoying the game.
Participants also had the opportunity to enter the Arthur Ashe essay contest and a chance to win a trip to New York for the U.S. Open! The Salvation Army included the contest as part of their educational curriculum.
Last summer, our biggest sponsors were the PJTA and St. Michael Interparochial School (Mulan Production Committee). Our most sincere thanks to all donors!
Finally, we are pleased about the addition of David Mayo to our Board of Directors. He is a player in the local wheelchair tennis community and is pivotal to the Pensacola Open tournament which attracts nationally ranked players.
