2009 USTA-FL Annual Meeting December 2009By Scott Harrison
Five Pensacola area tennis players attended the 2009 USTA-Florida Annual Meeting and Anniversary Weekend in Clearwater Beach on December 4-6. The theme of this year's event was "Celebrating 60 Years of Love & 30 Years of Dedication...." The 60th Anniversary of the USTA-FL and 30 years of dedicated service to the USTA-FL by Bobby Curtis.
Bruce Caton (Director of Tennis at Roger Scott Tennis Center), Scott Harrison (a past USTA-FL Merit Award Winner), Allison Randol (USTA Senior and Mixed League Coordinator), Terry Thrash (USTA Adult Men and Combo League Coordinator) and Diana Waters (USTA Adult Women's and Combo League Coordinator) all attended the function which included workshops, meetings, the actual Annual Meeting and the Sunday Celebrations of the 60 years of USTA-FL and Bobby Curtis.
There were a couple of outdoor activities that were canceled due to the really horrible weather in the Clearwater area.
The "30 Years of Dedication" Ceremony for Bobby Curtis hosted by Dave Kozlowski on Sunday morning was quite moving with seven of Bobby's best friends relating funny and moving stories, with maybe the most moving delivered by USTA-FL Executive Director, Doug Booth. Booth, who was the Head Professional at the Pensacola Country Club for many years had the place smiling, crying and applauding all at the same time. It was a terrific moment.
Two award ceremonies were conducted during the weekend to Honor some twenty-two recepients.
Biographies of the award winners and video of the Bobby Curtis ceremony and more are available HERE on the USTA Florida site.
The weekend was quite uplifting for all those involved.
