Pfeifler Wins Girls 18 Singles and Doubles
at Seminole County USTA-FL Fall Sectional October 2009By Scott Harrison
Gulf Breeze's Jennifer Pfeifler defeated Erin Stephens of Santa Rosa Beach 3-6,6-0,6-3 to win her first Girls 18 singles title at the Seminole County USTA-FL Fall Sectional Championships held in Altamonte Springs on October 10-12, 2009.
Later in the day, Pfeifler teamed with Maitland's Caitlin McGraw to down Lindsay Graff, Ft. Lauderdale and Nicole Robinson, West Palm Beach, 8-6 to capture the doubles title as well.
Pfeifler was joined by Gulf Breeze's Jackie Kasler and Pensacola's John Nowak at the event. Pfeifler, seeded 8th, won five matches en route to the title including a quarterfinal upset of top seeded Bianca Sanon of Plantation 5-7,4-1 ret(ill). Pfeifler's 6-1,0-6,7-5 semifinal win over Tampa's Amber Li was also a very hard fought match.
Kasler, seeded #2, in the tournament won two rounds before running into a very hot Erin Stephens and dropping the quarterfinal match 6-1,6-2.
John Nowak went to the tournament a little under the weather and had a rough go of the singles and doubles. He dropped both of his singles matches and teamed with Roy Lederman of Golden Beach and lost 8-6 to #2 seed Jake Albo of Plantation and Kyle Hoffman of Sarasota.
Kasler also played doubles and was the top seed teamed with Bianca Sanon. After a first round Bye, they were upset 7-4 ret(ill) by the aforementioned Graff and Robinson when the heat bothered Sanon.
Pfeifler and McGraw were the 3rd seeds in the doubles. In the semifinals, they upset #2 seed Julia Jones, Largo, and Amber Li 8-4.
