2009 Panama City Racquet Club Junior Tennis Championships July 2009By Scott Harrison
Six area players of 61 total participated in the Panama City Racquet Cub Junior Championships last weekend. Rain plagued the tourney Saturday morning delaying the starting matches until around Noon.
Gulf Breeze's Daniel Sullivan was the top seed in the Boy's 12 division. He had a BYE, then beat Tallahassee's Evan McDonald 7-6,6-4 in the semifinals. Sullivan was upset in the final by Tallahassee's Trey Whittaker 6-3,6-4.
Will Hahn of Pensacola was the top seeded player in the Boy's 14s but was upset in the semifinals 6-0, 7-6 by Panama City's Grant Talkington.
Pensacola's Blair Gaston was the 3rd seeded player in the Boy's 16 event. He beat Ponte Vedra's Davis Lowe 6-3,6-1 in the first round but was upset by Lynn Haven's Nicholas Tran 6-1,6-2 in the quarterfinals.
Pace's Britni Thibodeau and Gulf Breeze's Kelly Barnhill and Brianna Paulus played in the Girl's 16 division. Thibodeau was the top seeded player and after a BYE downed Micaela Deese of Midland City, AL 6-1,6-0 and Barnhill 6-3,6-2. However, Panama City's Marley Dobbins topped Thibodeau in the final 6-2,6-1. Barnhill defeated Dothan's Maria Parker 6-2,6-1 in the first round. Paulus beat Panama City's Megan Sizmur 6-2,6-0 before also falling to Dobbins 6-4,6-1.
