72 junior players from 9 states participated in the 1st Annual City of Gulf Shores Summer Slam Junior event. Five Pensacola players joined in the action.
Top seeded Melanie Lewis won the Girl's 16 divisions by getting a BYE and beating Katherine Walker of Huntsville, AL 6-2,6-1 and 2nd seeded Kaylyn Blosser of Gretna, LA 6-3,6-2 in the final.
Frances Taylor had a good tournament in the Girl's 10 division. She beat Abigail Garman of Diamondhead, MS 6-0,6-1 but fell 7-5,6-1 to top seeded Jamie Martin of Foley, AL. Taylor came back to win the third place play off match 6-2,6-2 over 2nd seeded Abigail Minton of Benton, AR.
In the Boy's 10s, Max McCullar had an opening round loss to Bruno Anez of Mobile 6-1,6-3. McCullar won the consolation final 6-3,6-0 over Sean Ros of Fairhope, AL.
Will New and Chris Puglisi had tough sledding in the Boy's 14 event. New dropped matches to Foley's David Christopher 6-3,6-4 and Cecil, AL's Guy Hood 6-0,6-0 while Puglisi lost to Gulf Shores David McDonald 6-1,6-1 and Meridian, MS's Will Whitehead 6-1,6-2.
