 QuickStart Format

QuickStart Tennis is a new format for junior players, ages 5 through-10 that has been jointly developed by the U.S. Tennis Association and the U.S. Professional Tennis Association.

The format combines smaller courts sizes, foam or low compression balls, smaller racquets, lower nets, and modified scoring to allow the junior player to learn and play tennis simultaneously. These changes work! Now any child between the ages of 5 and 10 can start playing tennis almost immediately - even if he or she has never picked up a racquet before.

Ages 5-6:
  • Each player will be assigned to a grouping and will play matches against multiple players in his/her grouping.
  • Each match is based upon the player who wins the most points out of seven points.
  • All players in this age grouping receive a prize.
  • Possible scores are 7-0, 6-1, 5-2, or 4-3

Ages 7-8 and 9-10:
  • Each player will be assigned to a grouping and will play matches against other players within his/her grouping.
  • Each match consists of two 7-point games (first player to 7 points).
  • If there is a tie after the first two games, a four point tie breaker is played.
  • All participants win a prize.
Parent volunteers are needed to facilitate use of this format. If you are willing to help, please indicate your availability when you pre-register player(s).

 Standard Format
  • Play will be a round-robin format ... each player will play every other player in their grouping/division.
  • If the number of participants within a division requires multiple groupings, the winners of each grouping will then play each other to determine the division (age group) winner.
  • Each match will consist of the most games won out of seven games.
  • Possible scores are 7-0, 6-1, 5-2, or 4-3 with regular game scoring.
  • If an age division/grouping is small, the total number of games played per match may be increased.
  • If sufficient interest is indicated by participants in each division, doubles play will also be offered.

Remaining Tournaments
  • November 22, 2008 - Hosted by UWF. Tournament location, date and time to be determined.
  • December 13, 2008 - Grand Prix Finals at Roger Scott Tennis Center (time to be determined).

Grand Prix Series Scoring Format
  • Points awarded are cumulative through the tournament series.
  • One point is awarded to all participants in a tournament event.
  • The top five players in each age division are awarded the following points.
    • Eight points to the player in with the most matches won.
    • Seven points to the player with the second most matches won.
    • Six points to the player with the third most matches won.
