We'd like you to know what we learned about tennis during our first season playing QuickStart tennis in the Junior Team Tennis league at Roger Scott Tennis Center. We had a GREAT season and learned a lot!
The first thing we learned was that it's a LOT of fun! But, we also learned it's not as easy as some might think. As each week went by, we found ourselves learning a lot and playing wasn't as hard as we initially thought!
We started out with a basic forehand. While not easy at first, before long they became so natural that we didn't even think about it - We just hit the ball!
We then advanced to the backhand. It was really a lot harder, but we mastered it too!
Although totally unintentionally, we also learned that if we hit up on the ball more, we could "lob" the ball. That's a really good shot to have against little players like us!
We even tried some volleys!
Then we started learning more about technique -- like following through on our shots.
And keeping our heads down while we make our shots.
We even tried what we've seen out parents do...you know, wishing it in!
We learned how to spin our racquet to determine who gets to serve first. The hardest part was remembering whether "M" was up or "W" was!
We learned sportsmanship.
We learned tennis is a "team" sport.
We learned to celebrate when we did well
We learned to cheer when we were done!
We learned individual achievement was awesome!
And, team achievement was even better!
We're telling all of our friends, so even more of us will play next season!
See you on the courts!
Sincerely,
The 5-8 year old QuickStart Teams at Roger Scott Tennis Center
